Finance Day at COP26 in November 2021 “turned the spotlight on nearly 500 global financial services firms that had agreed to align US$130tn with the climate goals set out in the Paris Agreement,” says our City View (p.5). “Net zero means
significant work by our sector.”
To support the sector in this work, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (several of which are depicted on the cover), while not developed for the financial world, can provide a common language that investors can understand, says our special
report (pp.16–24), which looks at the goals from a client and a member perspective, and includes a warning about regulatory risk in ‘The rising risk of ESG’ (pp.25–27).
Satellites can also help in the fight against climate change. Our feature on the opportunities and risks for investing in space (pp.30–35) explains how, and shines a suborbital light on the extent of the global space industry.
Other highlights in this edition include our interview with Thalia Chrysikkou, new chair of the board at the Association for Financial Markets in Europe; first-hand perspectives on the new CFP™ certification pathway (pp.36–40); and an expert’s
input on transition risk (p.46).
