Remote Invigilation

We now offer the option to sit our exams remotely, for example, from home or from a meeting room. All you will need is access to a quiet, private room and a suitable computer with sufficient internet connection.

How do our remote MCQ exams work?

As long as you are over 18 and have access to a suitable environment and equipment, you can sit in a location of your choice, such as at work or home. A live invigilator will be present online throughout. You will not be able to take a break or leave the room during the exam.

Step 1 - Check you can sit
Review the key requirements below.
Step 2 - Book your remote exam
Online or via our customer support team, your employer or Accredited Training Partner (ATP), then immediately move to step 3.
Step 3 - Review your booking confirmation and follow the instructions
You may need to complete a system check to finalise your booking. If so, it will be clear in your confirmation email. Your confirmation will also contain software download instructions.
Step 4 - Sit your exam
Ensure you have photo ID to hand first.

Technical requirements

  • At least Windows 8.1 or MacOS 10.13
  • The following operating systems are not supported:
    • - Mac OS Venture 13.0 to 13.21
    • - Mac OS Sequoia 15.0
    • - Chrome OS
    • - Linux based distributions
    • - Virtual Machines
  • Wired or integrated microphone, speakers and webcam
  • Internet speed of at least 0.516 mbps (to minimise the chance of disruption, we recommend 3 mbps or more)
  • A minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768. A 1920 x 1080 is recommended.
  • Latest version of Google Chrome
  • At least Intel Core i3 (or equivalent) and 4GB RAM
  • Standard security will allow the exam software to download
  • Depending on the exam, a non-programmable scientific calculator may be recommended or required, full details will be included in your booking confirmation

Environment requirements

  • Well-lit room, indoors and free from noise
  • No other people or animals present during the exam
  • Desk/table to be clear of all items. Narrative exam candidates will be allowed 2 sheets of plain A4 scratch paper and pen/pencil
  • No smart watches or electronic devices during the exam
  • No dual screens (please cover or remove additional screens)
 

How to book a remote MCQ exam

There is no extra charge to sit CISI exams remotely. ATPs and firms can submit bulk booking requests via their CISI relationship manager. Online bookings for individuals are available via our online shop.

Technical requirements

  • At least Windows v7.0+ or MacOS 10.10 operating system, and MacOS BigSur users need to upgrade to 11.3+
  • Mobile phones, tablets, Chromebooks and Surface Pro are not suitable devices
  • Wired or integrated microphone, speakers and webcam
  • Internet speed of at least 2 mbps (to minimise the chance of disruption, we recommend 3 mbps or more)
  • Screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768
  • Latest version of Google Chrome
  • At least an Intel Core i3 (or equivalent) and 4GB RAM available
  • Standard security will allow the exam software to download
  • A handheld non-programmable scientific calculator is required. There will not be an on-screen calculator. For Advanced Financial Planning exam candidates a handheld non-programmable financial calculator is required.
  • We recommend the use of a wired/wireless mouse to help with illustrations and annotations.
